As well as all the usual family fun taking place on Family Saturdays, this is a FAMILY SATURDAY EXTRA: find out what it was like to part in 1665 with Country Beats and Dancing Feet

Step back to 1665 and discover how people celebrated with Country Beats and Dancing Feet. From toe‑tapping tunes to hands‑on creativity, this Family Saturday EXTRA is packed with lively activities for all ages to enjoy.

Meet The Grantham Danserye, who will transport you to the Stuart period with traditional live music and dancing. Find out what it was really like to party in the 17th century, then join in yourself as you learn authentic Stuart dance steps in a fun, family‑friendly session – no experience needed, just enthusiasm!

Get creative with seasonal making as you craft your own maypole‑inspired twirling stick, perfect for whirling, spinning and celebrating the arrival of spring. There will also be a range of May Day‑themed crafts to enjoy throughout the day, alongside all the much‑loved Family Saturday favourites in our galleries.

As a Family Saturday EXTRA, the day includes everything you expect from our regular sessions, plus these special themed activities to make your visit even more memorable. Explore the museum together, play, create and discover, and enjoy a joyful day out celebrating music, movement and May Day traditions.

Family Saturdays are designed for children and grown‑ups to enjoy together, with drop‑in activities running throughout the day. Entry is free for Newark and Sherwood residents, making it a brilliant, low‑cost way to spend time together.
