Threads of Time is a self‑guided trail that uncovers the stories woven into the places where we live. By exploring a series of objects displayed both at the National Civil War Centre and in venues across the town, this trail highlights moments from everyday life and celebrates Newark’s rich local heritage.
Each object represents a different thread in the town’s story — from the people who lived and worked here to the things they used, wore and made.
The trail focuses on seven objects from Newark Museum’s collection, each chosen for the insights it offers into local industry and daily life. Some of these objects are on display for the first time, appearing in venues across Newark alongside those at the National Civil War Centre.
Together, they create a connected journey through the town, encouraging visitors to see familiar places in new ways.
Exploring the Threads of Time Trail is simple:
The trail can be enjoyed at your own pace and is suitable for individuals, families and groups.

Many visitors choose to combine the Threads of Time Trail with time spent exploring the National Civil War Centre’s galleries or enjoying refreshments at Café Nineteen20. The trail also complements our wider programme of family activities, exhibitions and events.
