About This Family Saturday EXTRA!

Join our archaeologists in residence for a hands-on day of discovery, creativity and exploration at the National Civil War Centre.

Find out why objects made from wood, including oak, rarely survive through the centuries and learn how archaeologists uncover clues about the past from the items they find beneath our feet.

This special Family Saturday EXTRA! combines all the hands-on fun of our regular Family Saturdays with additional archaeology-themed activities designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

What Will Be Happening on the Day?

During this Family Saturday EXTRA!, families will be able to enjoy:

  • A chance to meet our archaeologists in residence and hear about their work
  • Fun, playful archaeological digs where young explorers can uncover hidden treasures
  • Hands-on activities exploring how archaeologists investigate the past
  • The opportunity to make your own museum treasure to display or take home
  • All the much-loved Family Saturday favourites

Perfect for curious children, budding archaeologists and families who love to learn through play.

Discover, Dig and Create

Whether you're uncovering artefacts in our interactive dig, learning about objects that have survived for hundreds of years, or creating your own treasure to take home, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Make the Most of Your Visit

Families are welcome to explore the museum’s galleries, take part in creative activities throughout the day and enjoy refreshments or lunch in Café Nineteen20. This event forms part of our wider Family Saturdays programme, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month.
