The Newark Radiolink scheme allows businesses in Newark town centre to communicate amongst themselves, monitoring potential shoplifters and anyone else who is acting suspiciously.
Through the Shopwatch scheme, the Newark and Sherwood CCTV control room monitors the radios and is directly linked to the police who are then able to respond to any requests for assistance.
The scheme as a whole acts as a deterrent against shoplifting and other criminal activity, as well as boosting community spirit amongst local businesses. It also increases staff awareness of crime. All of this reassures both residents and visitors that Newark town centre is a safe place to shop and enjoy the nightlife.
How do I join?
If you’re interested in joining the scheme, we would first pass your contact details on to Radcomm, which operates the Radiolink network. They will then contact you to discuss the hire or purchase of a radio. To give you an idea of costs the Kenwood Hand Portable Radio is a monthly rental of £19 +VAT or to purchase outright £249 +VAT.
Radcomm can be contacted direct on 0115 952 2777.
Once you have agreed to a contract with Radcomm, we’ll issue you with a membership agreement form to sign up to the Shopwatch scheme, which is monitored through our 24hr CCTV control room. This provides direct links to all those on the Shopwatch scheme, our CCTV operators and the Police.
Is there a cost to join?
