Local land searches

Please Note - Our service operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  If you have an urgent enquiry and need to contact the service outside of these times, please email land.charges@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.  Furthermore, the service will be unavailable from 22nd December (after 3:30pm), returning 2nd January 2024.

Local land searches are usually carried out by a solicitor or licensed conveyancer on your behalf if you’re buying or selling land or property.

These searches show whether there are any legal restrictions affecting the land or property.

The information is collected from different Council departments including planning, building control, highways, environmental health and planning policy.

Types of searches

A full search usually consists of two separate parts called a LLC1 and a Con29/ Con29O.

Land Charge Register (LLC1) search

We joined the digital Local Land Charges service managed by HM Land Registry (HMLR) in October 2021 and that service now provides LLC1 search responses.   You can access HMLR searches via the new digital service through your portal account, Business Gateway and on GOV.UK.
