There are a number of grants and awards available to you as a local resident or business. From sport and arts grants and development funds to housing grants, you’ll find the latest details and links on this page.

Parish and Town Council Initiative Fund 2020 to 2023

The focus of this £200,000 grant fund will be Cleaner, Safer, Greener, in line with the Council’s commitment to making the district a better place to live. It will support projects which will improve the cleanliness and appearance of our local environment.

The maximum allocation per parish or town council is £20,000 and our contribution is a maximum of 50% of the total project cost.

What will be funded?

Our funding is open to any parish or town council in the Newark and Sherwood district. It can contribute towards any project that improves a community asset including:

  • community buildings
  • purchasing new equipment
  • creating local community projects and initiatives
  • supporting community-focused groups in improving community engagement and community resilience

Any parish or town council or parish meeting with an idea or a ‘ready to go project’ requiring some additional support can get in touch with the team at, this is also the email for completed application forms.

Where no formal parish council exists the local district councillor, with endorsement from the parish, can apply on its behalf.

What is the grant process?

Applications will be considered and determined by a panel of District Councillors who will meet twice a year. The closing dates for applications are detailed below:

Greener Theme application deadline:

  • April 2020 - complete
  • November 2020 - complete

Safer Theme application deadline:

  • April 2021 - complete
  • November 2021 - complete

Cleaner Theme application deadline:

  • 1 April 2022 (round 1)
  • 28 October 2022 (round 2)

Sports grants

Our sports funding supports individuals and clubs, helping them to achieve their aims and aspirations in sport. 

The scheme has three main funding streams:

  • coach education and development (up to £150)
  • special projects and events (up to £1,500)
  • talented individuals (up to £150)

Community and arts grants

Our small grants fund can help you out if you’re developing community-based projects and events within the district. For more information about accessing a community project funding of up to £1,500, is on our website.  

If you are an arts professional, community group or local individual or organisation with a good idea for an arts project within the district we may be able to help you. We can offer advice and support in finding external funding as well as offering small grants and funding from the council. Further information is available on our arts development webpage.
