Summer of Spies

Join us for some extra-special espionage themed actvities this holiday with Summer of Spies! Hear two of the Civil War's top secret agents spill all their secrets and create your own spectacular spy kit.



These family friendly sessions involve a bit of audience participation and are always good fun. Performances every day (except Sunday) at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm

Aphra Behn: Mistress of All Trades 

Listen to Aphra Behn, writer, actress and secret spy, tell all about her radical life and extraordinary adventures.

The Anonymous Spy

The anonymous spy who smuggled a message to besieged Newark's governor will share the painfully uncomfortable tale of how he did it.


Family Craft Activities

10am to 4pm every day. Days of specific crafts TBC.

Seventeenth Century Spy Kit

Find out about secret ciphers used in the Civil War and have a go at making your own spy kit for cracking codes.

Cloak and Dagger

Create a new identity for yourself as a Civil War spy, forge your identity papers and create a disguise.

Locked Letters and Secret Seals

Learn how to make and seal your very own secret letter.

How To Be Invisible

Make your own periscope for when you disappear around corners stalking the enemy.
Plus, write messages in invisible ink!

Hide and Seek

Make a hiding place for secret messages and smuggle out some military intelligence.
